What is a Worker Bee?
 

BEE Facts for Kids: Worker bees are female honeybees that do most of the jobs needed to keep their colony healthy. They clean the hive, care for baby bees, build honeycomb, guard the entrance, and fly out to collect nectar, pollen, water, and other resources.

A bee may be tiny but her work matters. Each worker bee has a different job, and every job helps the whole hive. When lots of little helpers work together, they can accomplish something much bigger than any one bee could do alone.

1) All worker bees are girls! 

2) Bees have 5 eyes! Two large eyes and three tiny eyes on top of their heads! 

3) They have pollen baskets! Special areas on their back legs help them carry pollen home. 

4) Bees can dance! A worker bee can do a "waggle dance" that helps tell other bees where to find food! 

5) One hive= Thousands of helpers! A healthy colony can contain tens of thousands of worker bees! 

6) They help grow our food! As bees visit flowers, they move pollen from flower to flower, helping many plants make fruits and seeds.
